As housing prices continue to rise across Arizona and the country, increasing the supply of affordable homes helps working families afford rent or a down payment. During the visit, Kelly spoke with workers about the construction process and discussed ways to support policies that make housing more accessible and affordable.
Yesterday, Kelly voted to pass the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, which includes Kelly-backed provisions to support manufactured housing by eliminating the costly permanent chassis requirement, cutting red tape that slows construction by simplifying National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA) reviews for small and infill housing projects, and cracking down on large institutional investors buying up single-family homes and pricing working families out of the housing market.

Kelly also reconnected with Peoria small-business owner Kelly Yu at her restaurant, Kawaii Sushi, following her recent release from ICE custody after nearly a year at the Eloy Detention Center, where Kelly visited her last August. During the visit, Kelly heard from Yu about how she and her family are doing since her return home.
Kelly had pushed the administration last year to prevent Yu’s deportation, emphasizing that she is a longtime Arizona business owner, mother, and valued member of the Peoria community with no criminal record who should not have been in ICE detention. Yu is now rightfully back with her family and able to resume her life in Peoria.

Kelly also met with West Valley mayors and local leaders over lunch in Avondale to hear directly about the challenges and opportunities facing one of Arizona’s fastest-growing regions.
He discussed his efforts to lower costs for Arizona families, including the tax cut plan for working families introduced this week and his bill to suspend the federal gas tax through October. He also highlighted his push for fair Colorado River drought planning that protects Arizona communities, along with efforts to strengthen Arizona’s long-term water future through the Northeastern Arizona Indian Water Rights Settlement Agreement.
